Ghosts, Voodoo, Zombie Pirates - what so seductive sounds like Monkey Iceland, is in truth Ghost Pirates, the new game from the developers of A Vampyre Story. With the vampire-adventure it shares primarily a sad thing in common: It falls short of expectations. Three characters fall into Ghost Pirates in a pretty mess: Cutthroat Jane, the warlock Papa Doc and the good-natured ship's cook Blue Belly enter at game start the spoon. The reason is that you will be enchanted by an evil priestess, whereby their souls are separated from their bodies. The undead trio want to reverse the conversion course and stop the evil lady. From this cute idea aside times to Ghost Pirates leans noticeably to the great model Monkey Iceland, but never reached its quality. The original approach of the game: The three protagonists are spirits, they can cope with situations so different than typical adventure heroes. Invisible, they sneak up on guards over, they march through doors easily through objects and usually do not travel physically, rather than "ideas" icon in the inventory - as in A Vampyre Story. Beautiful concepts, therefore, which have not been implemented consistently. So the ghost trio survived though, for example a loose stone chips, but as soon as Jane is to pick a few hot coals, they refused to serve. Why? The heroes deliver in such cases hardly helpful replies, instead they give often nonsensical comments from, which have nothing to do with the game situation and does not help in solving the mystery. In addition, the comments are funny little - the game wants to be funny, but it is rare.

Even the flaws in the puzzle design could still cope with it were not for the voice output: The figures are indeed mostly staffed appropriately and the speakers give themselves audible trouble, but that pales in light of the fact that it is possible to cancel no spoken sentence (!)! G, in our view this is the most fun killer in the game - As the heroes often leave comments rampant and many puzzles can be solved not only without stubborn trial and error, the player far too often the perennial talk has to endure. That the story quite original failure and the graphic offers some pretty drawn backgrounds, gets in the face of the other criticisms almost a side issue.

Ghost Pirates of Vooju-Iceland: Short Overview

Graphic
Beautifully marked, colorful 2D backgrounds. Some of the 3D characters are animated detailarm and quite wooden. The cutscenes seem completely outdated technology.

Sound
An atmospheric, good soundtrack. The speaking roles are usually well staffed but annoy the comments of the heroes quickly because they can not be cancel.

Control
Solid: a clear inventory, fast travel by double-clicking a hotspot and display via TAB key (not described in the manual by spacebar). Terribly disturbing: The language issue can not cancel it!
