Chris Ashton and Phil Robb from Turtle Rock Studios spoke to Game Informer about the history of Left 4 Dead and its subsequent projects. An interesting anecdotes there is no shortage in a video interview. Robb recalls, for example, that the idea for the co-op shooter was born, as he often was subject to in Counter-Strike and wished out of frustration of being able to gamble a game with four buddies.

Left 4 Dead is undoubtedly one of the best co-op shooters of recent video game history. The idea for the exciting Zombie Hatz came Phil Robb from Turtle Rock Studios just after a multiplayer game Counter-Strike. In a video report of the magazine Game Informer remembers back to a moment of frustration. Because he was not particularly good in the multiplayer shooter from Valve, he wanted a game in which four miners must work together as a team. Robb pursued the idea further and developed by Turtle Rock Studios a prototype of the first "terrorist" listened to the title.

The zombies in the game were original slow creatures. With movies such as 28 Days Later, the development team was, however, inspired to take advantage of this design decision distance.
